All of the appiChar team are highly skilled individuals and have specialist IT knowledge which they exercise to the benefit of our customers. Our team is known for being reliable, professional and loyal and we pride ourselves on appiChar’s low staff turnover.

All new recruits for the appiChar team are carefully selected to ensure they can communicate effectively with both clients and suppliers.

Meet the team

Ian Ryder, Managing Director

After working for a diverse range of organisations including British Telecom, Reuters, Forte and Transamerica, Ian started appiChar Ltd with the aim of providing high quality, affordable IT support and management services primarily to the not-for-profit sector. Since then the company has grown mainly by recommendation from our ever-growing customer base. Ian's role is now focussed more on developing the overall vision of the company, ensuring appiChar services remain of the highest quality.

Richard Ferriman, Commercial Director

richard ferriman Richard joined appiChar in early 2009 with a proven track record in spearheading growth for organisations. He has over 16 years sales and team management experience in the IT industry with companies such as Visio, Microsoft and IBM as well as blue chip companies like the John Lewis Partnership, Arcadia Group and Lloyds Bank. He is responsible for Sales, Customer Management and all Business Development at appiChar. Richard's brief is to establish new markets, revenue streams and strategies to enable accelerated growth and an excellent customer experience for the short and long term.

James White, Operations Manager

james white James has worked in IT for over 13 years, eight of those as IT Manager in both commercial and charitable organisations. As Operations Manager, James is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of appiChar as a business; managing the Finance; HR; and Office Management departments. He also manages the appiChar Helpdesk, ensuring that the team is well staffed and trained and providing customers with the best possible advice and support. An archaeologist by training, James decided against this as a career due to the lack of air conditioning and comfort in general and plumped for IT after finding a nice comfy chair in a well-chilled server room. He has never looked back.

Richard Eynon, Consultancy Services Manager

Richard Eynon Richard started his working life as a number cruncher and is a qualified accountant, but his natural flare and love for all things techie lead him to a career in IT. Richard has been with appiChar for over 4 years and is the Consultancy Services Manager. He heads up the technical team, sets appiChar's strategy and oversees the technical experience that our customers enjoy. Richard's eagle eye for detail and ability to develop the members of his team has proved invaluable to the continued growth of the appiChar business.

Graham Mulholland, Consultant

Graham has worked in IT for 16 years and at appiChar for the last 7 years. He started his career as a field service engineer and has also worked in software development and testing, writing training materials (many administrators have got through their Microsoft exams thanks to Graham!), local and remote support and network engineering. At home, he is a DIY fanatic (his preferred multi-tool is the Leatherman Wave) and he is unusual in being an IT consultant who does not drink coffee.

Adam Monks, Helpdesk Supervisor

After completing a Business Information Systems Degree, Adam joined the IT world, designing websites for small businesses. He then moved into desktop and network support for the Ministry of Defence where he enjoyed a varied role, dealing with some very interesting people and issues. Adam has been part of appiChar's team for over two years and is supervising the helpdesk so don't be surprised if Adam's dulcet tones greet you if you call.

Ed Pooks, Helpdesk Engineer ed pook

Ed has worked in IT since graduating from Bath University in 2006. His first job was working for the internet provider, Claranet, working on the helpdesk, before moving to Oddbins to look after its stores' IT. He has been a valued member of appiChar for almost two years and provides an excellent service on the helpdesk, working with Adam Monks. Outside of work, he spends all his money on his car and skiing holidays.

Stephen Handley, Helpdesk Engineer

Stephen has worked on the appiChar helpdesk since 2007. His main role is to resolve clients' issues remotely but we do sometimes let him out to see clients. Stephen also logs and monitors the server ‘health checks' to troubleshoot any problems with clients' servers. He began his career in IT in 2003 and worked as a Network Technician before joining appiChar. Stephen cannot get through the day without regular injections of caffeine and, when not helping customers, he can usually be found loitering near the kettle.

Anwen Crosher, Finance & Administration Officer

As appiChar's Finance & Administration Officer, Anwen is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the office including keeping the paperwork, the finances and the office under strict control. After studying music for many years, Anwen moved towards finance and administration. She has worked for many companies but is new to the IT sector and can just about switch on a computer, but is confident that her skills will improve with time. Outside of work, she still loves playing the violin and her claim to fame is having once played violin with George Michael!
